Our office will hold a plastic pesticide container recycle event again this spring. The event will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Updated April 19, 2012 Possible Lifting of European Grapevine Moth (EGVM) Quarantine from Portions of Sonoma County at the End of 2012 and More! The Technical Working Group (TWG) in its final report dated December 2011, stated its support of deregulating portions of Sonoma County that are more than 3 miles from a Napa County find site, at the end of 2012, if no moths are found in 2012. USDA announced February 27th the eradication of European Grapevine Moth from four California counties (Fresno, Mendocino, Merced and San Joaquin) and their release from the EGVM quarantine. Additionally, quarantine boundaries have been rolled back from a five mile to a three mile buffer around EGVM finds in those counties remaining under quarantine, including Sonoma County. Copies of the TWG report, the USDA February 27th announcement and the USDA 2012 map of the quarantine area may be found at Links. The Agricultural Commissioner's Office is working to update our website with the latest EGVM quarantine map of Sonoma County as well as lists of commercial sites that are with the quarantine boundaries. Posted March 7, 2012 Continuing Education Class Information Fresno County Department of Agriculture in conjunction with the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association (CACASA). Offers online classes for licensees and certificate holders to complete courses to obtain continuing education requirements mandated by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) in the category of 'laws and regulations'. 2012 European Grapevine Moth Trapping The Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner's Office is once again coordinating the local trapping survey for the European Grapevine Moth (EGVM). The California Department of Agriculture (CDFA) will continue to assist us with trapping in the northern and northwestern portions of our county. The 2012 EGVM trapping season began on February 14 and will continue until mid October. The 2012 trapping program will be similar to what occurred in 2010 and 2011. The difference this year is that we are moving toward deregulation of portions of the county under EGVM quarantine. With the process of deregulation, the trap density is increased to 100 per square mile in areas within 500 meters of any 2010 or 2011 EGVM find. The commercial vineyards beyond the 500 meters areas will be trapped the same as last year - at 25 per square mile. National Organic Certification Cost Share Program The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program (NOP) is providing funds to assist with the cost of organic certification under the National Organic Certification Cost Share Program. The California Department of Food and Agriculture will be distributing reimbursement to operations that have been certified by a USDA accredited certifying agent. Cost Share applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis.
